Vela Suggests Possible Return to Arsenal In Future

Real Sociedad striker Carlos Vela has refused to close the door on a potential return to Arsenal in the future. The 25-year-old could be a transfer target for several clubs in the summer after impressing with the Spanish outfit this season. He has revealed that Arsenal could be able to sign him for just € 4 million, a fee that represents just 1 million euro increased compared to the transfer fee that Real Sociedad paid for him several years ago. This is due to a clause inserted in his contract. Vela also revealed that other clubs will have to pay around £ 25 million or € 30 million in order to sign him.

The Mexican striker endured a disappointing spell at Arsenal after failing to cement a first-team spot due to intense competition that once included the likes of Robin van Persie. The sale of several strikers including van Persie in recent years, though, has reduced to the striking options for Arsene Wenger considerably. The lack of such options finally had a major impact on the team, as the team failed to sustain its title challenge after January. Hence, Wenger has hinted that he may sign a striker when the transfer window opens on the summer.

“One possibility is my clause of €30million (£24.6m), but there’s other options and we’re looking at that, to see what we can and can’t do. Arsenal can come back for me at €4million (£3.3m) at any time, which is €1million more than Real Sociedad paid. I look at things differently these days and I won’t close the door on Arsenal, or any team in England. I think I’m better prepared to play in another country now,” said the striker. He has scored 45 goals since joining Real Sociedad a few years ago in 120 appearances.
