BREAKDOWN OF THE DEAL BETWEEN CARLOS VELA AND LOS ANGELES FC

Carlos Vela has quite possibly the weirdest contract situation in MLS, a league full of rather weird contracts, and so far, no resolution to the major question hanging over LAFC’s season.

Vela is out of contract on June 30, which is just over two weeks away! LAFC’s leading scorer and captain is on the verge of leaving the club in the middle of the season. Letting a team’s best player walk in the middle of an MLS season, absent a major transfer windfall, is pretty much unprecedented. CARLOS VELA NAMED IN MLS TEAM OF THE WEEK AFTER HUGE PERFORMANCE

Carlos Vela had been in quite a little slump for nearly two months leading up to this past week, but with two goals in two games, it looks like he may have put that slide behind him, and it couldn’t come at a better time. As a result of his performance in his most recent game, a 2-0 LAFC win over the Columbus Crew on Saturday, Vela was named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 13 of the 2022 MLS regular season.

Vela had the breakthrough in the victory, powering through a Crew defender en route to scoring the winning goal in the 2nd half in Columbus. Sometimes, you need a smash-and-grab performance and that’s what LAFC got in the game, riding that goal and an insurance tally scored by Jose Cifuentes off a Crew mistake in the back to bust the two-game losing run and get back atop the Supporters’ Shield standings. SOURCES: CARLOS VELA AND LAFC AGREE CONTRACT EXTENSION

Carlos Vela and LAFC have reached an agreement over a contract extension, sources tell MLSsoccer.com. FOX Sports’ Doug McIntyre first reported the sides were finalizing an agreement. Sources add the agreed-upon deal is “at least” through the 2023 season.

He will remain a Designated Player. The contracts still need to be signed and made official. Vela’s current contract was set to expire on June 30, lending speculation to his future and a potential move back to Spain (or to Inter Miami CF). VELA SET FOR LAFC CONTRACT EXTENSION

Mexican forward Carlos Vela is set to sign a contract extension at Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Los Angeles FC (LAFC) according to various reports emanating from the media in the United States of America (USA). His current deal with LAFC comes to an end on June 30, but the contract would be extended to cater for the remainder of the current MLS season until the end of this year.

There has been a lot of speculation on the long-term future of Carlos Vela at LAFC. At the start of the season, Vela told reporters that he’s waiting on the offer of a new contract from LAFC officials to suggest that he’s willing to continue his professional football career at the club. Carlos Vela talked about a new contract offer when he was quizzed by reporters earlier this year.

Two reputable news sources have revealed that Vela and LAFC are close to finalising a new contract for the player that will see him stay in the MLS in the colours of LAFC beyond the 2022 season.

American journalist Doug McIntyre works with Fox Sports and he reported on Tuesday that LAFC and Carlos Vela are close to wrapping up a new deal for the Mexican star. McIntyre gave an update on the Vela contract situation at LAFC via his official Twitter handle as he said that the new contract is as good as done. According to him, sources close to Fox Sports stated that Carlos Vela will stay at LAFC beyond the 2022 MLS season.

Another American journalist, Tom Bogert of mlssoccer.com confirmed the report from Doug as he said that LAFC and Vela have agreed a deal until at least the end of the 2023 MLS season. He said the Mexican will continue as a Designated Player (DP) at LAFC.

VELA IN TALKS FOR NEW DEAL BUT NOTHING POSITIVE YET

LAFC and star forward Carlos Vela remain in active contract talks but no deal is imminent, sources tell MLSsoccer.com. Vela’s contract expires at the end of June, falling in the middle of the 2022 MLS season. Vela has been eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with any team abroad since Jan. 1, but remains in talks with LAFC.

The winger cannot sign with another MLS team on July 1 without that club acquiring his rights from LAFC as he does not currently qualify for MLS free agency. He will qualify for MLS free agency after the season, following the completion of his fifth season in the league. Continue reading VELA IN TALKS FOR NEW DEAL BUT NOTHING POSITIVE YET

MLS PREVIEW: LOS ANGELES GALAXY AT INTER MIAMI

LAFC heads to the Sunshine State to take on Inter Miami in a nationally televised match on Saturday morning. It is just the second match-up between the teams in their history, and the first visit to Miami ever for the Black & Gold. LAFC opened the 2020 season handing Miami a 1-0 defeat in their first-ever match at Banc of California Stadium behind a goal from Carlos Vela.

After an injury scare in LAFC’s last match on Sunday vs. Portland in which he left at halftime due after feeling some discomfort in his knee, the 2019 MLS MVP was back in full training all week and is expected to play against Miami.
That is good news for LAFC, who will be looking to Vela to help the team find the back of the net, after they threatened Portland for much of their previous match with numerous shots, but could not break through until the 93rd minute when Mamadou Fall directed the tying goal past the Timbers goalkeeper off a brilliant cross from Brian Rodriguez. CARLOS VELA CROWNED MLS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Carlos Vela has been voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for the first week of the 2022 MLS season. Midfielder Ilie Sánchez has also been named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 1 after a stellar LAFC debut.

Vela began the 2022 season in record fashion, becoming just the fifth player in MLS history to register a hat trick in a season-opening match, scoring all three LAFC goals en route to a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids at Banc of California Stadium. Vela’s hat trick was the third of his LAFC career and helped propel the Black & Gold to their fifth consecutive season-opening victory. Continue reading CARLOS VELA CROWNED MLS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

VELA: ARSENAL ARE STILL IN MY HEART

Former Arsenal striker Carlos Vela has revealed that he still sees the Gunners as one of his favorite clubs, citing that they still have a special place in his heart. The South American striker, who currently plays for United States Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy, revealed this in a recent interview that was uploaded to YouTube that even though he no longer plays for the north London club, he still fancies them and holds them close to his heart as one of his most favorite clubs.

This would come as a welcome remark by Arsenal fans, who have also been following the striker’s career even after he left the Emirates Stadium. Vela joined Arsenal as a very young striker some years ago and there was a lot of expectation placed on him to become a shining star for Arsenal. After signing for the club, Gunners former manager Arsene Wenger gave him some game time necessary enough to show signs of good things to come. However, for as long as Wenger and the Arsenal fans waited, it did not look like that was going to happen.

Following several opportunities to try and impress the Arsenal chiefs, Vela was unable to hit the ground running so he was allowed to leave the club some years later.

Following his exit from the Emirates Stadium, many thought that he would cultivate some amount of hatred for Arsenal but the reverse has been the case since then.

He has, instead, spoken fondly of the time he spent as an Arsenal player, insisting that his failure to adapt to English football was no one else’s fault but his. Asked what he thinks about returning to the Emirates Stadium in the future, he smiled and replied that even though he would not mind to, the chances are very little.

VELA’S YEAR IN FOCUS

Carlos Vela had a disappointing year. The nine game run that he had in June/July was the only time he played consistently in a season ravaged by recurring minor injuries. The Mexican was hoping for better fortunes than the one he had in 2020, but things didn’t exactly work as planned for the LA man.

Vela has a sad story with minor injuries, he has always been plagued with it enough he had some freedom in 2018 and 2019. Vela started 2021 on the back of an injury that he picked up towards the end of 2020. The highlight of his injury crisis was in a game where Vela injured himself, signaled to be removed, changed his mind, only for him to fall down almost immediately. He spent weeks on the sideline after this.

The only time he managed to get a consistent run of games, we were reminded as to why he would always be remembered by the MLS fans as he scored five goals and assisted a further four goals in nine games. Only for Vela to be injured again, and spend the rest of the season nursing this particular injury.

Vela did manage to make a total of 20 appearances in 2021, starting 15 with the 5 appearances coming from injury layoffs. He scored five goals, while contributing six assists all year. In spite of the poor returns, LAFC would have easily made the playoffs if their star man was available for most games.

It is another year, and while those at LAFC would be praying for Vela to stay fit. There’s also the manner of a contract extension to worry about. Though he has never made any statement that suggests he could leave, the problem is that he doesn’t look like staying either. It would make a whole lot of sense if the contract issue is resolved before the season starts proper.
