VELA – WE WILL FIGHT FOR UCL SPOT

Real Sociedad star Carlos Vela has said that the club would fight until the end for a Champions League spot, even though he is not focusing on the possibility alone.

He admitted that it was a difficult fight to return to the Champions League.

Sociedad are in the top five in the La Liga, so they are still in contention for a spot but Vela knows it is a long race.

“I don’t think about playing in the Champions League again, but if you win the games you have more chance. It is very difficult because there are other teams that have these targets too. We dream of many things, but we do not treat them like targets because this changes a lot,” the Mexico international told AS.

The club have not played in the continental tournament since the 2012/13 season. There is a decent chance that they would not make it with the competitive nature of the La Liga but Vela said that with their strong form, they can fight for Europe.

The team could have risen to the fourth spot when they played Eibar last week but the game ended in a draw. The visitors played the game with ten men after the break. Vela converted the penalty to make it 2-1 but Eibar got the equalizer in stoppage time.

With Sevilla and the top two La Liga teams in the spotlight, Sociedad might be set for the Europa League with more consistency. The former Arsenal man was a big flop for the club but he has turned around his career to be the hitman for Sociedad.
